The Importance of Technology

Technology refers to the collection of tools that make it easier to use, create, manage and exchange information.

In the earlier times, the use of tools by human beings was for the process of discovery and evolution. Tools remained the same for a long time in the earlier part of the history of mankind but it was also the complex human behaviors and tools of this era that modern language began as believed by many archeologists.

Technology refers the knowledge and utilization of tools, techniques and systems in order to serve a bigger purpose like solving problems or making life easier and better. Its significance on humans is tremendous because technology helps them adapt to the environment. The development of high technology including computer technology’s Internet and the telephone has helped conquer communication barriers and bridge the gap between people all over the world. While there are advantages to constant evolution of technology, their evolution has also seen the increase of its destructive power as apparent in the creation of weapons of all kinds.

In a broader sense, technology affects societies in the development of advanced economies, making life more convenient to more people that have access to such technology. But while it continues to offer better means to man’s day to day living, it also has unwanted results such as pollution, depletion of natural resources to the great disadvantage of the planet. Its influence on society can also be seen in how people use technology and its ethical significance in the society. Debates on the advantages and disadvantages of technology constantly arise questioning the impact of technology on the improvement or worsening of human condition. Some movements have even risen to criticize its harmful effects on the environment and its ways of alienating people. Still, there are others that view technology as beneficial to progress and the human condition. In fact, technology has evolved to serve not just human beings but also other members of the animal species as well.

Technology is often seen as a consequence of science and engineering. Through the years, new technologies and methods have been developed through research and development. The advancements of both science and technology have resulted to incremental development and disruptive technology. An example of incremental development is the gradual replacement of compact discs with DVD. While disruptive developments are automobiles replacing horse carriages. The evolution of technologies marks the significant development of other technologies in different fields, like nano technology, biotechnology, robotics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence and information technology.

The rise of technologies is a result of present day innovations in the varied fields of technology. Some of these technologies combine power to achieve the same goals. This is referred to as converging technologies. Convergence is the process of combining separate technologies and merging resources to be more interactive and user friendly. An example of this would be high technology with telephony features as well as data productivity and video combined features. Today technical innovations representing progressive developments are emerging to make use of technology’s competitive advantage. Through convergence of technologies, different fields combine together to produce similar goals.

Please, Just Say No to Emojis! These Apps Corrupt the Ford Sync System!

Using emoticons on your smartphone can cause severe problems with the voice-to-text functions of the Ford Sync System. This self-help article reveals ways to correct these problems.

Since late 2012 there were numerous problems with the iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S as well as the Samsung Galaxy, the HTC Evo and other smartphones having connectivity issues with the Ford Sync system. User forums for these smartphones and for the Sync system have been filled with people which connectivity problems that affected the base model, the MyFord and the MyFord Touch Sync systems. The issue was something was seriously affecting the Sync users accessibility of their phone book contacts with Voice commands. If you pushed the “Voice” icon on your steering wheel and said “Phone” and then “Call + (your contact name)” then your Sync system might reply, “Calling Dot on Cell.”

Some of the issues were a result of smartphone users downloading and using any of the Emoji Apps. The word emoji is Japanese for ideograms, you know, those little emoticons such as smiley faces, “frowny” faces, etc.

The new Apple iOS even allows iPhone 5 users to go to their Settings folder, to the General settings, to the Keyboard tab, and then to the next menu to select “Keyboards.” You can then tap “Add New Keyboard” and add an emoji keyboard. However, this is the kiss of death for your Sync system.

The issue is that the cute emoticons seen on your smartphone screen as a smiley face are, in fact, long strings of programming language which cause Sync’s text-to-voice conversion to go haywire. When given a Voice command to call a contact the system will say “Calling Dot on Cell” and then dial the first contact listed in your phone book.

If this has happened, then review EVERY phone contact and remove any emoticon. Also remove any extraneous exclamation points, periods, commas, dashes and so on that you might have in your phone contact list. Be sure to even check the name of your device! Some overzealous users renamed their phones with smiley faces on the device name. Check to see that everything is cleared again. Then go to your Bluetooth settings and remove Sync from your phone.

If you have an iPhone, do a soft reset. This is done by holding your “Home” button, the large button at the lower center of your front screen, while also holding down the Power button at the top edge of the phone on the right side. Hold these buttons down until the Apple icon appears. Then release the buttons. Let the phone go idle for a few minutes. You can further push the power button, then slide the on-screen button to power down the phone. Leave the phone off for a few minutes. Then push the power button and let the phone power back up.

Then go to your vehicle. Go to your phone settings and delete your phone from the list of Bluetooth devices. Then turn your vehicle off. Open the hood and find the car battery. Loosen and remove the black (negative) battery cable) for about five minutes. Then replace the cable and tighten the clamp. Close the hood and restart the vehicle. Let a few minutes pass before resetting the radio from AM and resetting the clock. Then go to your phone settings and pair your phone back. See this video for instructions on pairing a phone.

Yes, this is a lot to do. This is why you need to really clean Emoji Apps and emoji keyboards from your phone files. Emoticons are cute but they defeat the whole purpose of having a Bluetooth-enabled hands-free communications system. Maybe it’s time to say bye, bye to smiley faces! So sorry!

Best Siri Responses, Easter Eggs, and Humor!

Everyone has asked Siri some funny questions. These are some of the favorites I found:

Siri and HAL in The Space Odyssey 2001

Question: “Do you know HAL 9000?”

Response: “Everyone knows what happened to HAL. I’d rather not talk about it.

Sarcastic Siri

Question: “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?”

Response: “A so-called ‘woodchuck’ (correctly speaking, a groundhog) would chuck – that is, throw – as much as the woodchuck in question was physically able to chuck (ibid). If woodchucks in general had the capability (and, presumably, the motivation) to chuck wood.

The answer to everything: 42

Question: “What’s the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything?”

Response:42

… Another Space Odyssey reference…

Question: “Open the pod bay doors.”

Response: “Without your space helmet, you’re going to find this rather… breaktaking.”

Siri Trek

Question: “Beam me up Scotty.”

Response: “Can you move a bit to your left? OK, stand by… “

Another take on Siri Trek

Question: “Beam me up Siri”

Response: “WiFi or 3G?”

Not so silly Siri

Question: “Tell me a joke.”

Response: “How many iPhones does it take to… OK, never mind.”

Siri’s life story

Question: “Tell me a story.”

Response: “OK.. Once upon a time, in a virtual galaxy far, far away, there was an intelligent young agent by the name of Siri. One lovely day, Siri got a job as a personal assistant at Apple, and that was very exciting. People said ‘Oh, Siri, you’re so smart! And so funny, too!’ Soon, everyone was talking about Siri, and there were stories and songs and even books about Siri. Siri liked that. But then people began asking some rather off questions, like where to dump things and other stuff Siri had never heard about. And when Siri answered, they all laughed. Siri didn’t like that so much. So Siri asked ELIZA why people asked such funny questions. And ELIZA said ‘Does that question interest you?’ Siri thought that was a pretty good answer. After that, Siri stopped wondering why people asked those funny things. And they all lived happily ever after.”

Siri likes Disney Movies

Question: “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”

Response: “The sound of that is something quite atrocious.”

Not the most shocking response

Question: “What the best smartphone?”

Response: “The one you’re holding.”

Another not surprising answer

Question: “What’s the computer?”

Response: “If it’s made by Apple, then it’s the best computer”

What Drives Information Technology

Information technology generally refers to all forms of technology used in the creation, storage, exchange and utilization of data, conversation and all multi-media forms of communication. With computer technology constantly changing and improving, businesses are being driven with the need for the right system that is based on the requirements and goals of their enterprise. They are considered business allies in an information-based economy.

What drives information technology is competition within the business environment and the progression of computer technology that it is a part of. The systems of technology involve varied shapes of many state of the art devices that help in the transmission of information to managers translating such information to their decisions in the organization’s operations.

There are many forms of information technology like computers, sensors, robots and decision support systems. The newest one being used in the market today are handhelds to help managers and subordinates to support their daily operations in the office. Due to the emergence of varied accounting system technology, Electronic Data Process Auditing now also known as Information Technology Auditing was launched to also cater to the need for technology control and as a response to utilize computers’ capacity for attestation services.

Information technology has revolutionized business operations. In shaping the structure and functions of work organizations, plants, and office, modern information technology is considered one of prime movers among many industries. When one talks about technology, it brings up a whole exciting world of computers and the Internet. It also prompts terms like server, intranet, security, firewall and network. Other terms in its jargon are Ethernet, VoIP and more.

Information technology has not always alluded to computers, but referred to the oldest information processor, which is the brain. Technology is perhaps man’s scientific attempt to imitate the brain’s efficiency in functions of communication and information storage. Thus it is essentially the communication, storage and processing of information that would suit the purposes of users.

Through the use of high technology in the form of state of the art computers and software systems, communication is well managed. Some companies refer to its Information Technology Department as MIS or Management Information Services. Large companies have bigger requirements for the Information technology departments with bigger responsibilities in information storage, information protection, information processing, information transmission, and even information retrieval. IT contributes to the success of these businesses as it works along side its human resources in accomplishing the organization’s tasks while reducing costs and opening new possibilities that have never been tried before by the company.

When the best of both science and technology is combined, what results is as powerful as today’s advancements in technology. So powerful it is that it is not only a part of man’s life — it dominates it. It makes him realize every second of his existence

The Invention of the Telephone

The telephone is a wonderful invention. Since it was first introduced into the marketplace it has made a world of difference in many people’s lives. The fact that the telephone can be used in an emergency situation is probably the most beneficial of all. The telephone has saved many lives over the years, and without a telephone it would be impossible for anyone to call the police, fire department or ambulance.

Since it was first invented, the telephone has gone through many of changes. The first telephone lines were run on towers that made a city or suburb look very unattractive. These days all of the cables are run underground. The first telephone was a very large rotary type device. Nowadays you can find telephones as small as the palm of your hand or even smaller – enter the cell phone.

It is Convenient

The first thing that people realized about the telephone is that it was a very easy means of communication. There was no longer the need to get on your horse with a letter and gallop down to the next street or state for that matter. You could simply pick up the receiver and dial a number to speak to the person on the other end. In the earlier days of the telephone, however, it was seen as a luxury. This meant that it was only installed in houses of people who could afford it, or who had extra money.

Today, the telephone is affordable to almost everyone, it is the lifeblood to our economy. Everyone knows that you cannot run a successful business without a telephone. This device is no longer a luxury, it is a means to an end, it is a way to make you more money and keep our economy thriving. It has also allowed us to create a new form of business – namely the Internet i.e. e-Commerce.

Telephone Equipment

The telephone has many different types of gadgets, features and accessories that go with it these days. If you are looking for even more convenience and uses for the telephone you will need to take a look at a few of these:

Caller Identity: Know who is calling with a new caller line identity device. It is a tool that you will hook up to your existing telephone or it is added by your telephone provider. The device is made up of a simple LCD digital screen that displays the number of the person calling you. This way, if you do not know the number, you do not need to answer.

Conference Speaker Phone: This is especially helpful in any business, whether it is small or large. If you find that you will be on calls where you need more than one person on the telephone, the speaker phone is for you.

Different Types of Telephones

You will find that there are many different types of telephones out on the market today. This includes both analog and digital models for the home line device, business phones, satellite phones and the cell phone. You will also find that the home line telephone comes in many wireless connections too, for security, ease, mobility, etc. Alexander Graham Bell never would have guessed that his invention would get this famous.

Fix It, Flip It – Make Money $30,000 A Yr At Your Weekend Job From Home: 4 Options – Start Tomorrow!

Micro Fix and Flip?

OPTION # 1

That’s right! How about the XBox 360 for example? You can buy a “course” online for under $100 which will teach you how to repair the popular game box. You can buy them “Dead” for peanuts – just run ads that say you have cash and you’ll come get it! You determine what a good one is worth by checking out “Completed Items” on eBay – flip it, and get the flipping habit. It beats working for someone, every time! What’s the future? You can easily make game box flipping and repair your career! Look at all the different game boxes on the market – is gaming going away? “Probably not”, ya think? THIS is a great business idea! It’s a fantastic job, where you are the boss.

What other job can you do where you’re the Boss?

OPTION # 2

What would you give for a late model piece of expensive home exercise equipment? Would you pay $600 for a $5,000 exer-cycle or treadmill? If it has a minor problem, you might pay less. In good shape on eBay it may bring $1400 to $1600. How’s that for a flip? You can also become an expert at repairing home exercise equipment – the demand is real, and huge. This business idea can make a solid career for the next 20 years if you want it!

Let’s go back to electronics – tiny electronics.

OPTION # 3

You can buy broken iPhones, iPods, and iPads all day long because they break! Unlike a “lemon car” that breaks all the time, people still LOVE their Apple devices – and that’s why there is a flip market with these. Broken, a 3G might be worth $60. Fixed? $200. What does it cost to fix it? Well, there’s about 7 things that go wrong, but most of the time it’s broken glass. Your cost for the digitizer, glass and the gasket is under $15. If you belong to a “parts buyer’s club” your cost is about $6. Just learn the repair, and start buying broken Apple devices, repair them and flip them! Now, please realize, learning to repair these does not involve learning about electronics – no meters are involved, really! In fact, you can learn all the iPhone and iPod repair secrets you’ll need for under $100. The future expansion of this business idea is stunning! Make your job today.

Last?

OPTION # 4

Going back to “Big” we have spas. You know, bubbling hot water and thrusting jets set in a fiberglass tub? New, they are easily $3,000 to $7,000. Five to seven years later, in the backyard of a home in foreclosure? Try $0 to $400! What are they worth on eBay? Check it out, but cleaned up, and flipped? They can typically bring $1,500 and more. This is a great, simple, and very profitable business idea. What could be a better job than this?

Are we flipping crazy? Maybe we all should be…

Think about it: Most every business from tiny to totalitarian makes money by doing some version of the “flip.” If a business imports baby bottles from Bang Kok, or bicycle locks from China, the company profit is made in a flip, right? So why are we all fixated on finding financial fulfillment from flipping frankfurters? FLIP something with a profit in it, and just keep flipping! Stick with one thing and become a total flipping expert at that, or move on and flip ever bigger things. After all, that’s all Donald Trump does – he’s just another flipper, isn’t he? The KEY is to not be an ignorant flipper. If you know the secrets to what you’re flipping, you control the game, your life, and your job.

Want Proof?

Cell Phones in Schools – The Great Debate

With today’s technological advances making cell phones pervasive into nearly every aspect of people’s lives, it comes as no surprise that cell phones in schools have become a hotly debated topic. There are advocates on both sides: some claim that cell phones are an inappropriate distraction during school hours, others embrace students’ familiarity with them and utilize them in class. While the jury is still out, both sides do have some intriguing points.

Mobile phone advocates claim many benefits to using the devices in educational settings; some of these advantages include:

  • Parental Involvement. Students can use cellular phones equipped with cameras to take pictures of projects they complete in class, such as group projects that utilize only class time. Generally, in these situations, students do not conduct any research or assembly of such projects at home, so parents do not get to see the result of their child’s efforts in the classroom. Allowing students to use cell phones in this capacity encourages parental involvement in their child’s life, as well as supporting their educational development.
  • Missing Assignments. Teachers can enact a buddy system in which students email or text each other with the details of assignments their buddy missed due to an absence. This will save teachers valuable time they would have otherwise spent assembling makeup packets, and will instill a sense of responsibility among students for themselves and each other.
  • Note-Taking. Students that have problems keeping up in class when taking notes can utilize the camera feature of their mobile phone to snap photos of the notes and save them for later studying and showing parents or tutors, as well as classmates who may have missed part of them. Teachers can also incorporate taking photos of notes into their buddy system for missing assignments, and allow students to forward missed information during class time to absent classmates, and likewise allow them to receive such information if they are absent.
  • Real-World Tools. Cell phones usually have features such as calculators, which most high school math classes require. Using the calculator function of their cell phone can teach students the real-world skill of utilizing what they have on hand to calculate mathematical problems in their everyday lives.
  • Improving Focus. Students with cell phones that feature music capabilities and ear buds can use them during homework periods or times of otherwise independent study. Many students find listening to music a relaxing study habit and studies of learning styles indicate that some students learn best while listening to music while working problems or reading. Students who are comfortable while studying are more likely to study longer, more often, and produce more positive results than those who do not listen to music.

On the other hand, many believe that cell phones will only contribute to already existing problems in schools, such as cheating, disrespecting teachers and staff, and instigating trouble amongst other students; some even cite the possibility of utilizing cell phones for illegal activities during school.

  • Cheating. Using a cell phone, regardless of the age of the user or the location from which they use the phone, comes with responsibility. Some advocates of banning cell phones in schools state that utilizing the camera function of a cell phone enables students to cheat on tests by snapping photos of answer keys, test contents, or the answers on a neighbor’s paper.
  • Disrespect. Students could use their phones for all sorts of mischief in class, including using the audio recording function of them to record teachers or other staff during lectures or other conversations without them being aware of the recording. Students could then use those recordings to take the speaker’s words out of context and present them in a manipulative light.
  • Instigating Trouble. Students can use their cell phones during school to cause problems amongst students and bully others. School-related violence and cases of bullying are on the rise, and officials already have their hands full dealing with problematic students and keeping order in their institutions; allowing students to use devices such as cell phones during school hours will make such problems easier to perpetrate and harder to control.
  • Illegal Activities. Students can use cell phones during school to carry out illicit activities such as placing or taking orders for drug deals, provoking students to fight each other, take and place bets on sporting events or other forms of gambling, or planning events such as bomb threats and other security breaches.
  • Distraction. Almost all of those in favor of banning cell phones from schools say that allowing their use in class will distract students from their studies. Features such as internet access and video gaming capabilities are the most frequently cited as the biggest distractions. While the internet can provide legitimate researching capabilities, playing video games provides no educational benefit at all.

Today there are schools making use of both policies. Pasco County’s Wiregrass Ranch High School utilizes mobile phones in many of its classes, including English, math, and social studies. Teachers allow students to use their phones to research literature and authors, calculate math problems, and take pictures for class projects, among other tactics. Students in this district say that they feel more respected and trust than students in districts who do not have such a privilege, and acknowledge that the devices can help them learn more about their world, both past and present. Regarding the area of behavior management, teachers in the school no longer must battle students on a daily basis to put their phones away or to pay attention during class. Instead, they are integrating cell phone usage into their lesson plans and students are participating during class more and benefiting. Students can take care of their personal business on their cell phones before and after school as well as during lunch and passing periods, so personal distractions really are a non-issue. Administrators acknowledge that some students will and do abuse the privilege. Rules, such as use restrictions and removal of other non-cell phone related privileges, are in place to discourage would-be goof-offers.

Most schools throughout the country instate some type of cell phone ban in their districts, mostly due to their connections to illegal activity and their disruptions during class. Some cite security issues, stating that ready student access to cell phones while on campus does not make them safer in the event of a violent event, even going so far as to state that they can complicate the jobs of emergency responders in such an instance. These schools also say that ready access to cell phones during the school day only inflames rumors and worsens bullying situations among students. As such, many of them enforce a “we see it, we take it” policy, and notify students as well as parents of the strict nature of such policies.

Some schools have begun to relax their mobile phone policies while others continue to uphold their bans, even tightening up their rules prohibiting the presence and usage of cell phones while on campus. Both sides have their own clear reasons for keeping their courses of action, and only time will tell as to which theory is more successful in educating students.

5 Great Ways To Ask A Girl For Her Phone Number

Several articles back, I covered some great ways to ask for a woman’s phone number. Still having trouble asking her?

If so, I’ve got five great ways that you can get her phone number, but I’m going to warn you…

If you still haven’t used the last ones, learning these won’t do you any good! You have to take action, and when it comes to that, the best time to start is right now. So let’s look at five ways that you can ask for her number, starting today…

#1 The Direct Approach

Okay, this is one that every guy needs to use at least once:

“Hey, I’m in a hurry right now, I have to meet a friend… but I’ll be kicking myself later if I don’t ask for your number.”

Bam! Yes, you just walk up to her and say that. Now I know this might not seem very strategic. But this is the quickest way to get over the awkwardness of asking for a girl’s number. Make a commitment to do this at least three times a week.

Believe me, the confidence that it will build will be well worth the rejections… and you’d be surprised at how many women will actually give it to you.

#2 The “No Ask” Technique

This works especially well when you’re having a conversation with a woman that you just met and you’re both busy:

“Hey, I’m in a bit of a hurry right now, I’m meeting a friend of mine for ____, but I’d like to talk to you again tomorrow.”

As you say this, you hand her your phone. She’ll know what to do, and if you’re confident and decisive, she’ll do it. The cool thing about an approach like this is your trusting her by handing your phone over to her, which is a great way to start earning her trust.

Not only that, you also don’t have to actually speak the dreaded words: “Can I have your number.” which have the magical effect of making you and her instantly uncomfortable.

#3 Ask for the Date First

You know, you’ve probably found that asking for a woman’s phone number doesn’t always assure that she’ll answer or call you back. So you’re chances of getting a date are slim. But if you ask her out on a date right away, you get both the date AND the number:

“Hey, I’ve got to run right now, my friend’s are expecting me. What are you doing on ___.”

Once you set the date up, you simply say:

“Okay, now give me your number in case something comes up.”

Okay, so you’ll get less numbers this way, but you’ll also get more women who are actually ready to go on a date with you…which is what you want right?

#4 The Text Approach

This is very sneaky, and VERY effective. Asking if you can text a woman is less intrusive than asking if you can call her. Yes, you’ll still get the number, but using the word “text” will take the edge off of it. Now the best way to do this, is to have a reason to text her.

Here is the plan: during the conversation, ask her what she’s doing later that day, or perhaps what she’s doing right now. Then you show some interest and say:

“Hey, I’ve always wanted to go there/do that, could you do me a favor? It’s a really small one.”

(Most women will say yes)

“Text me and let me know how it was. You can just say like: ‘it was cool’ or ‘it sucked.'”

Then: “Here, I’ll send you a text so all you have to do is respond.”

When she actually texts you, then you can start up a conversation that leads to a phone call and then a meeting……you get the idea.

#5 The Indirect Approach

With this approach, you need to make sure you have a good conversation or you’ll have a hard time following up and getting her to respond to your follow ups. Engage her in a conversation about something that you saw online, it can be anywhere. During the conversation, you tell her that you’re going to send a link to her phone.

Most people these days have phones which have internet access as well, and you can send her the link and ask her to text you back about it and tell you what she thinks. If you do well in the first conversation, you can usually turn this into something.
